Speaker: Amy Wilentz, author, farewell, Fred Voodoo
From the revolutionary history of Haiti, to the total dynasty that ruled for decades in the 2010 earthquake, this island nation has become synonymous with poverty and dysfunction. However, through it, everything illuminates the creative culture and the resilience of the people.
During the three decades that covered the country, Haitian journalist and expert Amy Wilentz saw the Haitians overcome all sorts of difficulties. Still struggling to rebuild the earthquake in 2010, Haiti is now full of well-meaning and sometimes erroneous characters: the movie stars turned to assistants, the musicians holding the presidency and the former US president worked as a house builder. Wilentz will explore the evolution of Haiti's vibrant culture and dysfunctional government.
