Assassinations, counterfeits, cyberattacks: the situation of intelligence threats in Germany "tends to be tightened," says the new report on the protection of the constitution.

Russia, China, Iran and Turkey: The greatest intelligence threats come from these countries, in accordance with the protection of the constitution. good-btp.com explains what the danger looks like – and what intelligence agencies are looking for.

Russia

The country has three intelligence services: the FSB National Intelligence Service, the SWR Foreign Intelligence Service and the GRU Foreign Military Intelligence Service.

The Kremlin provides 400,000 employees for spying! The goal, in addition to traditional spying: influence public opinion about Russia in Germany.

Because recently Russia had a big picture problem. The attempted assassination of the double agent Sergej Skripal (68, former GRU officer, who was also working for British MI6) has had serious consequences on international relations. In Germany, four Russian diplomats were expelled from the country.

The Russians are also attacking digitally: NATO and the OSCE security organization were victims of hacking and malware last year. In The Hague, even four GRU agents were arrested in April 2018 while they wanted to be hacked into the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OVCW) network.

In 2017, Putin said that he knew that every GRU agent "was doing everything for Russia and our people," stressing that he knew their skills, including special operations.

China

The Chinese secret service mainly ensures the power of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in their own country. In Germany, the Chinese want to develop in the fields of business, science and technology and use the intelligence services. Keyword Economic Espionage!

China's goal: to become the first industrial nation of the world. To do this, they encourage – even in Germany – medium-sized technology companies by simply buying them back.

Political espionage is also in progress: the information on the formation and state of the Bundeswehr is just as interesting for the Chinese as the internal EU information, the trade disputes with the United States. United and the recognition of China as a market economy.

How are the Chinese? Through their message, harmless diplomats try to contact NGOs, companies or associations. The people concerned are generally unaware that in fact, a Chinese agent is standing in front of them.

Turkey

The Turkish secret service, MIT, has been directly subordinate to the president since 2017, namely Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The approximately 9,000 employees mainly work against groups that Turkey qualifies as extremists or terrorists. The Kurdish party, the PKK, also considered a terrorist organization in Germany, and the movement of the Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen, responsible for the coup of 2016 according to Turkey.

MIT is not afraid of kidnappings! The agents are expelling suspected supporters of Gülen in Turkey. According to the Turkish Ministry of the Interior, there are now more than 100 people from around twenty countries.

Because of the many Turks in Germany, it is important that the Erdogan government be good here. As a result, the secret services are trying to report (suspected and actual) cases of racism, Islamophobia and Turkish hatred in Germany, in order to divert attention from Turkey's problems. Due to the many Turkish nationals in Germany and the large number of Turkish organizations, the MIT can easily obtain information.

One of the largest government-related associations in Germany is the Islamic DITIB community. According to the report on the protection of the constitution, it is deliberately moderate and tries to minimize the ties with Turkey.

Iran

Quote of the constitution protection report: There is more and more "evidence of terrorist activity of state of Iranian origin in Europe". It is the national and foreign intelligence service of Iran (MOIS) which is responsible for it. His most important task in 35 years: spying and fighting opponents of the government. In Germany too, the Iranian opposition groups are monitored by the MONTH. But not that.

Iran is in conflict with Israel, wants to eliminate the Jewish state and therefore monitors pro-Israelis and Jews, even here in Germany.

And MONTH is not the only Iranian secret service. "The al-Quds unit" is a military combat force of Iran, which also operates overseas. In March 2018, an Iranian from Frankfurt am Main was sentenced to seven years in prison for wanting to buy printing machines for money. This would allow Iran to easily reprint foreign currency.
