After three years of construction, the hotel "Der Öschberghof" was completed and reopened in May. The design for the renovation of the five-star Superior Golf and Wellness Resort in Donaueschingen was designed by Allmann Sattler Wappner Architekten. The architecture office in Munich received first prize in the 2014 competition and was then commissioned. The enlargement and associated optimization of the logistics of the entire system took place during the course of operation.
Update of the history of the place
The awareness and appreciation of the traditional regional architecture as well as the careful handling of existing buildings form the basis of the architectural concept. The existing stock of the hotel has been emptied, its cubature reduced and supplemented by a new offbeat building. Thus, more than thirty years of the history of Öschberghof continued. As an aesthetic and functional answer to the site, the architect's design cites the archetype of the typical Black Forest family estate, consisting of unique and clustered gabled roofed houses.
Colors and materials refer to the surrounding nature. The translucent buildings merge into the landscape and sensitively integrate the entire object into the landscape. A transparent perforated sheet metal front creates views and provides additional lighting for an extraordinary indoor atmosphere. At night, the light shines outward and shines the whole.
New principle of organization
Over the decades, the constant expansion of the ski resort has created a confusing building organization that has taken a long time to access labor-intensive operations. The future growth of the whole has required a new structure, which opens directly to the user. The design of Allmann Sattler Wappner is therefore based on a clear and legible organization principle. The building use units are clearly configured and readable. The individual sloped roof houses characterize the clearly identifiable utilization units: the convention center, the 126 hotel rooms and the spa. The newly designed main building with lobby is the center from which the client orientates himself. An essential part of the design is the integration of open space into all buildings: the house and terrace become a symbiotic unit. All rooms offer panoramic views of the beautiful landscape.
