Werner Müller, former Federal Minister for the Economy and Director, has died – News

Growing up in Meppen, Muller pursued a scientific career after graduating. The economist graduated in the early 1970s as a lecturer in commercial mathematics and linguistics.

Career Manager in the West

In 1973, Müller changed economy. At the essene RWEHe rose to the head of market studies until 1980. The next step is the Veba energy company in Düsseldorf. In 1992, he moved to Veba Kraftwerke Ruhr in Gelsenkirchen.

Manager Müller lives in Mülheim an der Ruhr with his wife and two children. One of his hobbies (in addition to playing the piano and hiking): The sucker without party advises, from 1991, the aspiring Prime Minister of Lower Saxony, Gerhard Schröder (SPD).

Schröder replacement

In 1998, Schröder is a candidate for Chancellor. During the general elections, the government of Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl (CDU) is eliminated. The red-green comes to power.

"I sat in my bathrobe at eleven o'clock in Mülheim when Schröder calledMüller said, according to "Süddeutsche Zeitung" about his change of policy, the new Chancellor had ordered him to go to Bonn.

En route, Müller learned on the radio that Schröder's current candidate, Jost Stollmann, had given in and that he would become the new Minister of Economic Affairs. "I could hardly allow Schröder to lose two ministers of the economy in one day".

Architect of the nuclear output

The anecdote is a fine example of Müller's dry humor. As a rather discreet representative in politics, he succeeded. Müller is considered as the architect of the nuclear elimination agreed in 2000, of which he negotiated the key points with the sector. Nevertheless, in 2002, he has to hand over his ministry to Wolfgang Clement (SPD).

End of coal

Müller returns to the economy. Confirmed energy expert, he takes the lead of RAG Ruhrkohle in 2003. The rapid change of former minister raises many criticisms.

Müller now manages the output of the coal mines in the Ruhr region. As head of RAG, he transfers industrial activities to the new Evonik exchange group. The costs of the eternity of the mining industry must be managed via a RAG foundation. These tasks shape Müller's professional life until he leaves for illness in 2018.
