Vecima to provide the industry’s most mature next-generation access ecosystem
The technology and product portfolio will be integrated into Vecima’s Entra Distributed Access product line
Nokia employees related to these key technologies will join Vecima Networks
Nokia retains wired products, including fixed mobile access, routing, transport, fiber, and wireless technologies, as well as network operations and customer experience solutions
Nokia and Vecima Networks plan to maintain ongoing business relationship and specific product resale agreements to seize unified cable access opportunities
ESPOO, Finland & VICTORIA, British Columbia – (hooly News) –Nokia and Vecima Networks (TSX: VCM) today announced Vecima’s plans to acquire next-generation technologies and products for cable service providers. Under the agreement, Nokia’s Gainspeed portfolio, along with all related technologies and assets, will be transferred to Vecima Networks. The contract is expected to be finalized quickly, subject to customary closing conditions. Financial clauses are not disclosed.
Vecima Networks is a world leader specializing in the development of integrated and scalable IT and software solutions for high-speed access, content delivery and telematics. Nokia’s Gainspeed wired access portfolio integrates seamlessly with Vecima’s Entra ™ family of solutions, migrating to a 10G wired platform, including DAA (Distributed Access Architecture) and 10G-EPON ( passive Ethernet optical network).
Nokia’s Unified Cable Access solution, which includes the Gainspeed product portfolio, provides a centrally controlled distributed access architecture solution with unified support for Flexible MAC DAA nodes for Hybrid Fiber-Coaxial (HFC) networks and DOCSIS Provisioning of EPON (DPoE) nodes for fiber to the home and business. The portfolio further includes a DAA video engine and a chassis-based EPON / DPoE solution for non-HFC network deployments.
Employees currently working on Nokia’s DOCSIS DAA and EPON / DPoE wallets are expected to integrate with Vecima. Nokia will retain cable related products and solutions not listed above. The companies plan to maintain an ongoing commercial relationship, including through resale agreements for key and enabling technologies to pursue unified cable access opportunities.
